OccasionTime (IST)Note
Holika Dahan Muhurat8:21 pm – 8:56 pmPradosh Kaal (dusk) window while Purnima tithi is active, with Bhadra Mukha (the classically most-inauspicious first ~2 hours of Vishti karana) excluded — Holika Dahan is classically performed outside Bhadra Mukha; the milder remainder of Vishti (Kantha/Hridaya/Nabhi/Kati/Punchha) is not excluded. Some published Panchangs show the full, un-clipped Pradosh Kaal span here regardless of Bhadra (treating the Mukha rule as guidance rather than a hard clip) — a real, disclosed methodology difference, so this app's own window can come out narrower than one you may see elsewhere. (Bhadra excluded.)

About Holi

Holi, the Festival of Colours, falls on Phalguna Purnima (the full-moon day of the Phalguna lunar month) and marks the arrival of spring. The night before Holi, Holika Dahan is observed — a bonfire lit to commemorate the legend of Prahlad and Holika, symbolizing the triumph of devotion and good over evil. The following day, people play with coloured powders (gulal) and water, visiting friends and family to celebrate renewal, forgiveness and the joy of new beginnings.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Holi in 2027?

Holi falls on Phalguna Purnima — see the computed date above.

What is Holika Dahan Muhurat?

The Pradosh Kaal (dusk) window on the eve of Holi, while Purnima tithi is active, with Bhadra Mukha (the most inauspicious opening hours of Vishti karana) excluded.

Why is Bhadra avoided for Holika Dahan?

Bhadra Mukha is classically considered highly inauspicious for lighting the Holika bonfire — the muhurat window shown avoids this specific period.
